It would be very easy for them to become each other, but I think the more interesting thing would be if they could become better versions of each other. Like if Melody learned what a bitch she could be and actually is a better husband, or if Owen fights off the teen girl tendencies and does become a more important part of his daughter's life. (Assuming they're not prioritizing swapping back).
It looks like they are changing to match their new bodies. It would be nice to see Owen struggle and overcome his urges to bully, while Melody lacks the will power to resist her new male body and ends up seducing Alice, locking them into their new bodies.
I think the sticking point for Owen would be - if he isn't able to swap back, if he wants to stay a part of his daughter's life, he's going to have to fight those urges.
